All flying car concepts, going back to the late 70's have all been shipping to customers in two years.

It would be cool to get out to some places in a lot less time.

How do companies like this still raise money? Seriously, who’s funding this? People who have a helicopter pilot’s license and can afford their own helicopter have their own helicopters , and once you hav e your own helicopter,   owning a car in addition is not really a financial or logistical problem.

I’ve been watching this one for a long time. It seems to be the one design that’s going to make it through the road testing. The downside is that you can’t just power it up and take off in the middle of a traffic jam. It’s a gyrocopter, so forward movement is required to get airborne.

i suspect thered be some legal issues to just taking off in the middle of a traffic jam too

you know..if that was an option

but yeah apparently it needs 150m of runway (least i think thats what the radio said)

Ah, just 2 years away.  That’s how you know it’s legit.

Maybe the same way Theranos got funded - rich people can be idealistic too, and can let logic slip when they see something that they desperately want to be real badly enough. In this case, rich investors who dreamed of flying cars as kids and can be dazzled enough by a fancy presentation to believe that that’s a thing that can be practical.

In Theranos' case, there was also a certain amount of sex appeal, not sure if that's also happening here

I’ll believe it when cars fly.

Tilting the blades back behind the pushing propeller will help spin them up to speed, also a headwind will get them moving as well. the issue would be the cars around you in the traffic jam. Otherwise a zero takeoff is achieveable for a gyro.

Only with a headwind. The PAL-V’s takeoff roll is 180m at max takeoff weight and mean sea level. https://www.pal-v.com/en/explore-pal-v

If these could be flown without a helicopter license, they’d take the world by storm... but for legal reasons they can’t.

Maybe making them autonomous would solve the problem, while also adding a whole new level of risk to this somewhat hazardous yet very futuristic idea.
